Set List 05.17.09

Here is the music that we used for 05.17.09 - Week 2 of the series "The Core". Steve Hogg's son got married yesterday and he didn't want to preach all three services. This gave us a chance to try something a little different for worship. We created three videos using quotes on love from songs, movies and people and played them in three different ways.

[Intro]
Our Love Is Loud - David Crowder

In this first video, we took some of the quotes about love and recorded several people on our team saying them. We then played the audio over some guitar music with a cool moving background.

[Welcome]

[Worship Set]
Glorious One - Steve Fee
Be Glorified - Chris Tomlin
This is the first time that we have done this one. I have been a bit nostalgic recently towards songs and am trying to bring back some older songs that have/had a lot of meaning. Even though it was the first time for this song, I think that it went over great.

In the second video, we just had several quotes up on the screen. This gave the audience a chance to reflect on them. We finished up with a quote from Forrest Gump "I may not be a smart man, but I know what love is." That one got a chuckle from the crowd.

[Song]
I've Always Loved You - Third Day
Once again, this was a "new" song for our congregation and I felt that it went over great. Looking forward to bringing this one back.

[Message Part 1]
For the message today, we used a movie from "Modern Parables". We used the movie part as "Part 1" of the message. This one is on the Good Samaritan. Modern Parables is a modern-day reenactment of the parables of Jesus.

[Offering]
Love Song - Third Day
We normally do the offering at the end of the service and just allow people to place it in the plate as they leave, but I wanted to switch it up some today. I pointed out that giving one's offering is not just a commandment from God, but it is a act of worship. Today, we had the baskets up front on little tables and had people come up and place their offering in the baskets.
We also displayed several scripture verses on the screens for people to reflect on during the song.

[Message Part 2]
For "Part 2" of the message, we played the application portion of the Modern Parables. Rev. Jeff Schulte did an excellent job opening up the Good Samaratian parable.

[Closing Song]
Your Love Is Extravagant - Darrell Evans

Today was awesome. It was by far the best all around service that we have had at Reveal. Now that is not to say that everything went smooth because it didn't. I had broken a string (G) during the first service (10:30). Unfortunately, I didn't have any more strings, which is a problem when you have to lead another service in an hour. So I sent one of our tech guys to Target and he brought me back some strings. Now these were not the best quality strings, or the ones that I would have normally chosen, but beggars can't be choosers, right. So I replaced my string and played the first song when, yep you guessed it, I broke another one (B). When I broke the string, I pulled it out of the top tunning peg and figured that the bottom peg would still be in the guitar, but when I went out to change it during "Part 1" of the message, I realized I didn't have it, so I had to go back in and search around on the stage in the dark for a black peg. Luckily I found it and was able to re-string my guitar and re-tune for the offering song.

I was also crazy sick with head cold thing. I could barely hear or talk, but somehow, God gave me the strength to lead worship. I don't know if anyone else was feeling the worship today like this, maybe it was just me, but if so, man I worshiped today with all that I had. IT WAS AWESOME!

As always, check out how other churches worshiped this morning at Fred McKinnon's Sunday Set Lists.
